The Principle of Love
Maḥabba, "The Principle of Love," is one of Ibn Taymiyya's important works. In it, he explains how love is the basis of every movement in the universe and every human action. He explains that love requires hatred of things that contradict what one loves, and that this love and hatred are the foundation of Islam and iman. The following excerpts are from the text: "The foundation of iman (faith) is to love for the love of Allah and to hate for the love of Allah, so whoever loves for the love of Allah, hates for the love of Allah, gives for Allah, and withholds for Allah, has completed his iman."
