Dr. 'Abd ar-Rahman Raafat al Basha (1920–1986) was a Syrian scholar, writer, and professor of Arabic literature. He studied at al-Azhar University in Aleppo and at Cairo University, where he earned his doctorate. After his time in Syria, he taught for over two decades at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud University in Riyadh. The author of more than 40 books – including the well-known works *Images from the Lives of the Companions* and *Images from the Lives of the Followers* – he dedicated his work to Islamic literature Co-founder of Rabitat al-Adab al-Islami. He died in Istanbul in 1986 and was buried in the al-Fatih Cemetery.
