Real licorice is a plant from the subfamily butterfly flowerers within the legume family. The best known is the real licorice from the liquorice candy extracted from the liquorice root.

According to a review by Iranian researchers from the University of Medical Science, the licorice root is attributed to the following effects on the body, among other things:
